Keddie Lifts Vols to Fifth in Cabo

Danny Keddie climbed into a tie for fourth place Friday and Tennessee improved by seven strokes and one place to fifth in the standings heading into the final round of the Cabo Collegiate.

Keddie shot 1-under-par 70 on the Club Campestre Golf Course in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. The sophomore continues to shine in the fall portion of Tennessee's season, taking over the team lead in scoring average (73.18) and posting his seventh round of par or better.

Friday's scorecard was Keddie's best of the fall and the best since he closed with 66 at the NCAA Indiana-Central Regional back in May. He stands at 1-under 141 for the tournament, five shots behind leader Sebastian Cappelen (136) of Arkansas. Keddie leads the field through two rounds with 16 pars.

The Vols shot 4-over 288 as a team Friday to improve to fifth place at 15-over 583. UT trails first-place Arkansas (557) by 24 strokes, but the next three teams are within reach heading into Saturday's final round. Southeastern Louisiana is second at 7-over 575, followed by a tie for third between St. Mary's and San Francisco, both at 13-over 581.

Vying for Third Top-20

Garrick Porteous and Rick Lamb carded 1-over-par 72s, with Jay Vandeventer adding 74 to close out the Tennessee scoring. Porteous is vying for his third top-20 finish in four tournaments this fall, while Lamb's 72 matched his UT low score. Vandeventer is looking for his best finish since placing seventh at the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate.

Darren Renwick shot 77 and Marshall Talkington, playing this week as an individual, shot 80.

Saturday's final round begins at 8:30 a.m. Mountain time (10:30 a.m. Eastern). The weather forecast calls for continued sunny skies and a high in the low 90s, with winds at 10-15 mph.

After Saturday's play, Tennessee's next tournament is Feb. 13-14 at the San Diego Intercollegiate Classic.
