Four Vols Advance on First Day at Elon

While the ITA All-American Championships are winding down in Oklahoma, six Vols finished the first day of competition Friday at the Elon Invitational in Elon, N.C.
Sophomores Tennys Sandgren and Edward Jones led the way for the Vols in the A1 flight of singles. Sandgren, the No. 1 seed, defeated Illia Ziamstou of UNC-Wilmington 6-4, 6-3, and Jones, the No. 4 seed, beat Radford's Nick Sayer 6-3, 6-7, 7-6.
Sophomore Taylor Patrick, who was also competing in the top flight, lost in three sets to Simm Tuus of Liberty. Patrick started out the season 7-0 but has since lost his last two matches.
In the A2 flight, sophomore Max Stevens won his first career three-set match in six attempts. He defeated Larbi Lamzouri of Campbell, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Junior Bryan Swartz improved to 4-2 this fall with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Zach Spraus of Presbyterian in the B1 draw.
The Vols continue action Saturday and Sunday at the Elon Invitational.
