Tennessee's strongest test of the season begins Sunday at the prestigious Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla.
The annual three-day tournament is known as one of the nation's premier collegiate golf events, and the 2010 field features five of the country's top-10 teams according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll.
The Vols are competing against No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Florida, No. 5 Alabama, No. 6 Texas and No. 9 LSU, in addition to No. 11 Georgia, No. 18 Texas Tech, Arizona, Central Florida, Ohio State, SMU, Stanford, TCU and Vanderbilt.
Tennessee head coach Jim Kelson has a lineup this week of senior Robin Wingardh, juniors Garrick Porteous and Darren Renwick, and freshmen Brandon Rodgers and Max Smith.
Wingardh leads the team this year with a 70.89 stroke average and has finished 15th, 19th and 12th in his three starts. Five of his nine rounds have been par or better.
Porteous is coming off his season's best round, a 69 to close the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in a tie for 30th place. His stroke average is third on the team at 74.67.
Renwick tied for fourth last weekend in Jonesborough, shooting 71-71-69 for a 5-under-par finish. It was UT's first top-10 individual finish this year, and Renwick's stroke average is up to second on the team at 74.33.
Rodgers makes his third appearance in four tournaments, his best performance a tie for 30th at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. The Knoxville native owns a stroke average of 76.50.
Smith debuted last weekend at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and tied for 52nd, shooting 78-73-75. His stroke average is 75.33.
The Isleworth Collegiate Invitational was created in 2004 to give collegiate players and coaches the feel of a PGA Tour event. The tournament provides collegiate golfers the opportunity to compete on one of the toughest courses in the nation against the best players in the game.
Isleworth's golf course is a par 72, 7,544-yard championship course originally designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, later redesigned and enhanced by Steve Smyers. Isleworth consistently ranks as one of the longest and most difficult courses in the state of Florida and is home to a number of world-renowned PGA professionals.
Tennessee begins play at 8 a.m. on the No. 1 hole, playing alongside Ohio State and TCU. Weather conditions Sunday call for sunny skies and a high of 89, with winds 10-15 mph.
