Four Vols Advance At Southern Intercollegiates

The Tennessee men???s tennis team got off to a fast start Friday at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships winning five of seven singles matches on the first day of competition at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Chris Racz, Davey Sandgren and J.P. Smith opened play in the Division I bracket with victories. Sandgren, the highest ranked Vol at 69th, defeated Tyler Hochwalt of Florida 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The UT sophomore faces SEC foe Evan Dufaux of Vanderbilt in the Round of 32. Racz, ranked 84th, defeated Mississippi State???s Ryan Farlow 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the third round against 24th-ranked Marek Sramek of South Alabama.
Smith, playing in his first tournament as a Vol, defeated George Kemodie of Wofford 6-1, 6-3. The Australia native faces Mahmoud Hamed of South Florida in the Round of 32.
Jeremy Tweedt won both of his matches Friday to advance to the Round of 32 in Division II. Tweedt began the day with a three-set win over Brandon Corace of Virginia Tech. In the second round, Tweedt defeated Daniel Isaza of ETSU 6-2, 6-3. The Paris, France native faces another in-state foe, Joao Paoliello of Middle Tennessee in the third round.
William Lang lost his opening match to Daniel Knause of Furman.
The third and fourth rounds of singles competition are scheduled to begin Saturday. The Vols three doubles teams will begin play on Saturday also.
