Golfers Open Season At Carpet Capital Collegiate

The Tennessee men???s golf team is set to open the 2007-08 season as the 19th annual Carpet Capital Collegiate begins Friday at The Farm in Dalton, Ga., a par-72, 7012-yard course.
The 54-hole tournament will run through Sunday with each morning beginning at 8 a.m. Eastern time.
The field for this event includes SEC opponents Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, along with Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Augusta State, Texas Tech, TCU, Georgia State, ETSU, and UT-Chattanooga.
???This is the premier tournament we play in every year,??? head coach Jim Kelson said. ???It is one of the most challenging fields we play in every year, and it may be the most challenging course we play all year.
The Tennessee lineup will feature Charlie Ford, Philip Pettitt, Chris Paisley, Robin Wingardh and Cameron Lawrence.
Ford, one of three seniors on this year???s squad, looks to continue where he left off last season. He led the team with a 72.83 scoring average, garnered four top-10 finishes including an 8th place finish at the 2007 SEC Championships.
Pettitt was named first-team All-SEC after the 2006-07 season saw him earn four top-10 finishes, rank third on the team in scoring average and lead the team to a title at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges with a second place individual finish.
Paisley finished runner-up at the 2007 SEC Championship with teammate Tino Weiss. He fired a 76-70-69--222 to earn his second top-10 finish of the season and best finish as a Volunteer.
Wingard and Lawrence will both make their first collegiate start when the Vols hit the links on Friday. Wingard, a freshman from Morarp, Sweden, finished 1st at the 2006 European Junior and followed that up with an 8th-place finish at the 2006 World Junior. Lawrence is a redshirt-freshman from Brentwood, Tenn., who finished 5th at the 2005 Tennessee State High School AAA Championships.
