Four Vols Advance to Round of 32 at ITA Regionals

Four Tennessee men???s tennis players advanced to the round of 32 Saturday at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Indoor Regionals in Lexington, Ky.

Freshman Boris Conkic had the biggest win of his young career as a Vol defeating 24th-ranked Marek Sramek of South Alabama 6-0, 6-2. The Novi Sad, Serbia native learned last week that he would be eligible to compete his freshman season as a Vol.

The Vols??? three ranked singles players, Chris Racz, Davey Sandgren and J.P. Smith join Conkic in the round of 32. Racz breezed past Artiom Podgainii of Florida A&M 6-3, 6-2. Sandgren defeated Georgia???s Chris Motes 7-5, 6-3 and Smith advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Phillippe Kricka of Stetson.

William Lang and Jeremy Tweedt won their first two matches at the Regionals but dropped their round of 64 matches to ranked players.

Sandgren and Smith are the only UT doubles team left in the tournament. The UT duo defeated Varela/Vitulli of Georgia 8-6 in the first round and demolished Krivka/Leboucher of Southeast Louisiana 8-1 in the round of 32. Sandgren and Smith advanced to the championship match of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships last month.
