Vols Travel West For The Ashworth Collegiate Invitational

The 23rd-ranked Tennessee men's golf team travels to Los Angeles for the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational, Feb. 28-March 1. The tournament is being held at North Ranch Country Club (par 71, 6,900 yards).
Four teams from the Golfweek top 25 highlight the tournament. Those teams are No. 8 and host Southern California, No. 10 Brigham Young, No. 20 Washington and No. 23 Tennessee. The remainder of the field includes defending national champion California, Fresno State, Georgia Southern, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Stanford, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Vanderbilt and Washington State.
Senior David Skinns once again leads the Vols in the one position. Skinns, who has competed in every tournament this season, leads the team in scoring average with a 72.78. He also leads the team in rounds of par or better with eight and three top-10 finishes. The top-10 finishes occurred at the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate in seventh, the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions in a tie for eighth and the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Intercollegiate in a tie for 10th.
Junior Lloyd Campbell anchors the two spot. Campbell, who is having his best season to date for the Big Orange, has a scoring average of 73.07. Earlier this year Campbell recorded his highest finish as a Vol at the Tournament of Champions in a tie for third. He also has another top 10 finish from the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Intercollegiate in a tie for third.
The three position will be filled by senior Ross McGowan, who enters the tournament with a scoring average of 74.07. McGowan's highest finish of the year came at the Tournament of Champions as an individual when he finished tied for third.
Freshman Philip Pettitt will compete in the four position. Pettitt is looking to claim his second individual title of the season. He opened the 2004-05 campaign with medallist honors at the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Intercollegiate. He has a scoring average of 73.72.
Senior John Scott Rattan returns to the line up in the five spot to round out the Tennessee competitors. Rattan has a top-10 finish to his credit from the fall season at the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Intercollegiate where he finished tied for 10th. He has a scoring average of 75.67.
The Vols competed in this tournament last year, claiming an eighth-place finish with a scorecard of 279-303-294--876. McGowan led the Vol charges in a tie for 14th with a 69-74-73--216.
The tournament is a 54-hole format with 36 holes played on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. A link to live scoring is available at www.UTsports.com.
