Tennessee Head Men's Golf Coach Jim Kelson announced today that two student-athletes have signed to play golf at the University of Tennessee beginning in the 2006-07 season. Joining the squad will be David Holmes and Cameron Lawrence.
"We are very excited about David Holmes and Cameron Lawrence joining our program in 2006," Kelson said. " Both players have established themselves as two of our state's finest. With the departure of senior Lloyd Campbell, these two individuals will undoubtedly vie for a starting position. Fortunately for us, both Cameron and David possess superb physical technique, and we have no doubt that these two additions will strengthen our program over the next few years."
David Holmes hails from Knoxville and attends West High School. He was runner-up for the 2004 Tennessee State High School AAA Championship. Holmes also finished runner-up in the 2005 Tennessee State Junior. He has two top-10 finishes in 2004 AJGA selected events. Holmes finished in a tie for seventh place at the Bobby Chappman to qualify for the 2006 prestigious AJGA Rolex Tournament.
Cameron Lawrence is from Brentwood, Tenn., and attends Brentwood High School. Lawrence finished in fifth place at the 2005 Tennessee State High School AAA Championship. He tied for 23rd at the 2005 Tennessee State Amateur Championship. Lawrence tied for seventh at the 2004 AJGA Ashworth Junior. He finished in 11th place at the 2005 Hudson Junior Championship.
