Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship

VOLS DEFEAT GEORGIA STATE 4-1; MATCH AGAINST GEORGIA SUSPENDED

Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. -- The Tennessee men's golf team defeated No. 9 seed Georgia State 4-1 Friday in the first round of the Hooter's Collegiate Match Play to advance to the second round versus No. 1 seed Georgia. The second round match was suspended due to darkness with Georgia leading three of the matches.
Jonathan Mount defeated Georgia State's Mark Haastrup one up at the No. 1 position. The Kingston native raced to a three-hole lead after 12 holes of play but saw his lead trimmed to one with three holes to play. Mount recovered to stave off the comeback to take the win.
Chris Paisley contributed Tennessee's biggest victory of the day, defeating Georgia State's Ben Taylor three up. Charlie Ford and Philip Pettitt also won their matches. Ford lost both the first two holes but recovered to win going away.
Tim Freund came away with Georgia State's only win of the day defeating Ben Spickard two up.
Arizona, Arizona State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Tech, Stanford and Wake Forest all came away with victories in the first round. Georgia Tech and Stanford have also already advanced to the semifinals. The Arizona-Wake Forest match was suspended with Arizona leading in four of the matches.
The Georgia-Tennessee match is scheduled to finish Saturday morning.
