BAXENDINE ADVANCES ON DAY ONE OF SOUTHEAST REGIONAL INDOORS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Tennessee men's tennis player David Baxendine won twice Friday to advance to the Round of 32 at the ITA Indoor Southeast Regional at the Racquet Club of Memphis.
Baxendine started his day with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Shauny Hayes of Miami. Baxendine came back in the afternoon to defeat LSU's John Tragardh 6-1, 6-1. The UT senior faces another SEC opponent, Alex Hume of Kentucky, Saturday at 9 a.m.
The other senior on this year's squad, Rawl Martin won his first match Friday as well. Martin defeated Fadi Zamjaoui of Murray State 5-7, 6-1, 7-6. Martin lost his second round match to Colin Purcell of Georgia 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore Kaden Hensel defeated intrastate rival Greg Pollack 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the second round. Hensel dropped his second round match to Matic Omerzel of Georgia 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.
Bobby Cameron received a bye into the second round but could not capitalize as he fell to Rishan Kuruppu of MTSU 7-5, 6-2. Ben Rogers dropped his first round match to Anton Mavrin of UAB 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. Johnny Thornton lost his match to Auburn's Hunter Mills 6-4, 6-2. Kiril Tcherveniachki feel to Troy's Pascal Duttlinger 6-4, 7-6.
The Vols could not get rolling in doubles either as two doubles teams failed to advance. Martin and Thornton lost to a team from Central Florida 8-3 while Baxendine and Tcherveniachki lost to a tandem from Tennessee-Chattanooga 8-1.
Hensel and Rogers received a bye into the second round and face MTSU's Rishan Kuruppu and Greg Pollack.
Action at the Southeast Regionals resumes Saturday morning with Baxendine the only Vol remaining in singles action and Hensel and Rogers still alive in doubles.
