UT's Skeen Qualifies For U.S. Amateur Championships

Tennessee's Brandon Skeen qualified for the 2004 U.S. Amateur Championship Monday at Willow Creek Golf Club in Knoxville. Skeen, who will enter his senior season with the Vols this fall, shot a 7-under-par 135 (68-67) to advance from the field of 77. Bill Roach, Jr., a senior at Tulane, finished one shot back of Skeen and also advanced. The Jefferson City, Tenn., native one-putted the final five holes of the 36-hole marathon. The 2004 U.S. Amateur will be played Aug. 16-22 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., the site of four previous U.S. Open Championships.
