Skeen Falls in U.S. Amateur Match Play

MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Tennessee golfer Brandon Skeen fell in the first-round of match play at the 2004 U.S. Amateur at Winged Foot Golf Club. Skeen lost to J.J. Jakovac, the two-time Division II NCAA individual national champion from Chico State, by five holes with only four to play. The match opened with each player parring the first four holes before Jakovac took the lead after a Skeen bogey on the fifth hole. Skeen regrouped on the next hole with a biride compared to a par by Jakovac to even the contest. From there Jakovac would take control winning holes seven, eight, 10, 11 and 12 for a five-hole lead. Skeen won the 13th hole, but saw Jakovac win 14 to take the victory with four holes remaining. The Tennessee men's golf team opens its 2004-05 season Sept. 11-12 in the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tenn.
