McGowan, Campbell Advance to Match Play at British Amateur

Tennessee?s Ross McGowan and Lloyd Campbell advanced to match play following the 36-hole qualifier at the British Amateur Championship Tuesday at St. Andrews.
McGowan followed Monday?s six-under-par 66 with a 73 in Tuesday?s second round to finish the qualifier tied for 11th --just four shots off the lead. Campbell carded a 143 (72-71) in the qualifier.
James Heath, who shot a 63 Tuesday, and Kevin McAlpine, who carded the day?s best score of 62, finished the 36-hole qualifier tied at 9-under-par (135).
McGowan faces Mark Halliday Wednesday as the first round of match play begins, while Campbell takes on Sam Osborne.
The first stage of the Championship involves 288 players each of whom plays two rounds of stroke play, one on each of the 2 courses at St. Andrews (Old Course & Jubilee). The players with the lowest scores over the 36 holes and ties for 64th place compete in the second stage of the Championship.
The second stage of the Championship is match play that begins today at the Old Course. Each match consists of 18 holes except the final which is played over 36 holes.
