Tennessee golfers David Skinns and John Scott Rattan were named to the All-SEC second team the league office announced Monday. Skinns was named All-SEC for the third time, while this marks Rattan?s first honor.
Head coach Jim Kelson is very excited for Skinns and Rattan who set All-SEC honors as one of their goals at the beginning of the season.
?We are proud and excited for both David and John Scott,? Kelson said. ?Being named to the All-SEC team was an important goal for both of these players.?
Skinns, a junior from Lincoln, England, has competed in 10 tournaments for the Vols this year, and leads the team in stroke average with a 72.80. He has three top 10 finishes for the year, coming at the Suntrust Gator Invitational (72-68-70--210) in second, the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions (69-73-70--212) in a tie for ninth and the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship (73-69-76--218) in a tie for ninth. He is second on the team with 12 rounds of par or better.
Rattan, a junior from Montgomery Village, Md., has competed in every tournament for the Vols and stands second in scoring average with a 73.18. He recorded his highest finish as a Vol earlier in the season at the Landfall Tradition, tying for third with a scorecard of 69-71-71--211. He has another top 10 finish at the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Intercollegiate (69-68-78--215), finishing tied for ninth. Rattan leads the team with 13 rounds of par or better.
?Having two players named to an SEC all-conference team is certainly a noteworthy accomplishment,? Kelson said. ?David will have an opportunity next year to become only the second golfer in Tennessee history to be a four-time All-SEC performer.?
Florida senior Camillo Villegas was named the SEC Golfer of the Year, while teammate Jesse Mudd and Brendon Todd of Georgia were voted co-SEC Freshmen of the Year. Buddy Alexander of Florida received Coach of the Year honors.
The Vols, who currently stand 28th in the latest Golfweek rankings, await the announcing of the NCAA regional pairings. The regional sites are the Yale University Golf Club in Yale, Conn., for the East Region, Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind., for the Central Region and Crosswater Club at Sunriver Resort in Portland, Ore., for the West Region. The tournaments will be held May 20-22.
