KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee opens its fall golf season Sept. 14-15 at the fifth annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges Golf and Country Club in Jonesboro, Tenn.
Head coach Jim Kelson is excited about the start of a new season and looks forward to seeing his team compete this weekend.
We are excited about traveling to Jonesboro" Kelson said. "This is one of our favorite events of the year with a very strong field, played on a good golf course. It is going to be a good opportunity to see some of our other guys compete in a more competitive tournament. David Skinns is overseas playing in a major international event, so we will be without our best player statistically."
Leading the way for the Vols is senior Andrew Pratt. Pratt was a 2001-02 second team All SEC performer. Last season Pratt finished with a scoring average of 73.53. Joining Pratt from last year's squad is fellow senior Ian Parnaby and sophomore Ross McGowan.
Parnaby finished 2002 with a scoring average of 73.73, while McGowan had a 72.89. Competing in their first tournament as Volunteers are sophomore transfer John-Scott Rattan and freshman Lawrence Dodd. Redshirt freshmen Chris Robinson and Clint Cromwell will also be competing for the first time at Tennessee, but will be competing as individuals.
The tournament features seven finalists from last season's NCAA Championships. Auburn, Augusta State, Georgia Southern, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Texas Christian and Virginia Tech all participated in the NCAAs last spring. Rounding out this weekend's field is Arkansas, Duke, Houston, Michigan and host East Tennessee State.
Tennessee plays 36 holes on Saturday, with the final 18 holes on Sunday. A link will be provided to live scoring for the event at www.UTsports.com.
