The Tennessee men's golf team will be competing in the third annual Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate from Oct. 14-15 at Old Memorial Country Club (par 72, 7,247 yards) in Tampa, Fla.
Head coach Jim Kelson is looking forward to this tournament and feels it would be a good time to prove the Vols are a team to be reckoned with for the rest of the season.
"This is an important district tournament for us," Kelson said. "This is a great field of competition being played on an outstanding golf course. We feel we have a very good team this year. We have not proven this yet and it is time for us to start playing like a very good team."
Kelson will field a solid group of competitors. Leading the way is senior Ian Parnaby. Parnaby leads the team in stroke average with a 72.67. Earlier this season he claimed his first collegiate individual championship at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Other Vols competing are senior Andrew Pratt and sophomores David Skinns, Ross McGowan and John-Scott Rattan. Sophomore Brandon Skeen will be competing in his first tournament of the season as an individual.
Three teams in the tournament are ranked in the Precept Coaches Poll Top 25. Those teams include No. 3 Florida, No. 13 Tennessee and No. 21 Toledo. Other teams in the tournament are Arkansas, Central Florida, College of Charleston, Florida State, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, North Florida, Rhode Island, South Florida and Vanderbilt.
The tournament format includes 36 holes on the first day, with 18 on the second.
