Josh Reynolds was announced as Tennessee's Director of Baseball Operations and Pitching Performance in August of 2024 after spending the 2024 season as the pitching coach at the University of Cincinnati.
A veteran coach at the Division I level, Reynolds brings more than 20 years of college and professional baseball experience as a player and a coach with him to Knoxville.
During his lone season with the Bearcats, they posted a 32-25 overall record and a 17-13 mark during their first year in the Big 12. It was the program’s first 30-win season since 2019, and Cincinnati finished the regular season fifth in the league after being picked to finish in last in the preseason coaches’ poll.
Under Reynold’s guidance, Cincinnati saw its team ERA drop by nearly a full run in 2024 from the previous year, posting its lowest single-season ERA (5.89) since 2019.
Before taking the job at UC, Reynolds served as Colorado Scouting Director for Prep Baseball Report from 2022 to 2023. Prior to that, he coached at Northwestern where he oversaw the Wildcats' pitching staff and took a lead role in the program’s recruiting efforts from 2016 to 2022. Reynolds was named the Wildcats’ interim head coach at the end of the 2021 season and served in that role throughout the 2022 season, as well.
Reynolds also spent time as an assistant coach at Kansas State from 2011 to 2015. During that time, the Wildcats made a pair of NCAA tournament appearances and won the 2013 Big 12 Championship.
Prior to joining the coaching staff K-State, Reynolds worked as an assistant coach at Evansville for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He also had successful stints as a graduate manager and a volunteer at Kansas State, and as an assistant at Northeast Texas Community College.
As a player, Reynolds pitched for Division II powerhouse Central Missouri from 1998 to 2000. He set the UCM record for career wins with 34 in three seasons and helped lead the Mules to Division II College World Series appearances in 1998 and 2000.
Reynolds was selected in the third round of the 2000 MLB Draft by the New York Mets and also spent time in the Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres organizations before transitioning to coaching in 2004.
