Maddi Swaney joined the Tennessee women's golf program as an assistant coach on July 7, 2026, as announced by head coach Diana Cantú.
"We are thrilled to welcome Maddi Swaney to our Tennessee family," said Cantú. "She brings an incredible level of experience, a championship mindset, and a proven track record of success. She has an exceptional eye for identifying what it takes to compete at the highest level, and she is deeply committed to developing student athletes into the very best golfers and people they can become. Her values align perfectly with what we believe Tennessee women's golf represents. I am incredibly excited to welcome her to Rocky Top and can't wait to see the impact she'll have on our team."
Boasting 14 years of high-level assistant coaching experience prior to joining the Lady Vols, Swaney was most recently an assistant at Oklahoma State from 2019-25. She helped lead the Cowgirls to five consecutive NCAA Championship appearances from 2021-25, highlighted by a runner-up finish in 2021, and Big 12 Conference Championships in 2021 and 2023.
At Oklahoma State, she coached six WGCA All-Americans, seven All-Big 12 selections, three Big 12 Player of the Year honorees, one Big 12 Freshman of the year, 19 WGCA All-American Scholars, and 16 Academic All-Big 12 selections.
Prior to joining the Big 12 outfit, Swaney got her coaching start at her alma mater Kent State. She was key in establishing the Golden Flashes as one of the premier mid-major golf programs in the country, helping lead the team to eight consecutive Mid-American Conference Championships and NCAA Regional appearances. Kent State reached the NCAA Championships in each of her final three seasons on staff, tying for fifth place in both 2017 and 2018. Additionally, Swaney was named WGCA National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016.
In her time with the Golden Flashes, Swaney coached four WGCA All-Americans, 35 All-MAC selections, eight MAC Players of the Year, four MAC Freshman of the Year selections, 18 Academic All-MAC honorees, and 17 WGCA All-American Scholars.
In total, Swaney has played a part in 40 team tournament titles, ten conference championships, and eight NCAA Championship appearances as an assistant coach. She has coached ten All-Americans, six Augusta National Women's Amateur participants, and five Arnold Palmer Cup selections.
Prior to her coaching career, Swaney was a four-year letter winner at Kent State, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees. Playing for the Golden Flashes from 2005-09, she was part of four consecutive MAC Championship-winning teams, while garnering two Second Team All-MAC selections.
