Knoxville native Billy High returned to his alma mater in 2022 as Tennessee’s director of internal and advance scouting. He enters his fourth season on Josh Heupel’s UT staff in 2024.
High owns over a decade of experience, including multiple stints in the Southeastern Conference. High serves as the program’s NFL liaison, working closely with scouts and league personnel year-round, while coordinating Tennessee’s annual Pro Day that has attracted all 32 NFL teams for three straight years. High is also heavily involved in the Vols’ scouting efforts. He has been a key part of the program’s most successful two-year on-field performance in two decades that includes the 2023 Orange Bowl and 2024 Citrus Bowl.
High previously served as the Assistant Athletic Director/General Manager for North Carolina football from January 2019 to January 2022. In his role with the Tar Heels, he oversaw recruiting evaluations and operations, on-campus recruiting and all other recruiting activities on head coach Mack Brown’s staff.
During High’s tenure, North Carolina signed three consecutive top 15 recruiting classes, including the No. 8 class in December 2021. The Tar Heels earned an Orange Bowl berth and finished No. 17 in the final Coaches poll during the 2020 season.
Prior to UNC, High spent two seasons at Auburn beginning in 2017. He was promoted to director of recruiting prior to the 2018 season. In that role, he oversaw the player personnel and on-campus recruiting departments. High was part of the Tigers’ 2017 SEC West championship team and two top 15 recruiting classes. He worked alongside former Vol assistant coach Kodi Burns and current assistant Rodney Garner on Gus Malzahn’s staff.
Previously, High spent a year at Eastern Kentucky as a defensive quality control coach under head coach Mark Elder. He was in charge of defensive scouting reports and running the offensive scout team for the Colonels.
After college graduation, High was an assistant coach at the Christian Academy of Knoxville for four years where he was a part of a state championship team that set multiple national and state passing records. He coached multiple positions including running backs, outside linebackers, defensive backs, and he was the special teams coordinator and assistant head coach.
High received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Tennessee in 2012 and a master’s degree in teacher education in 2015. High got his start in college athletics in spring of 2009 when he served as a recruiting intern at Tennessee.
High is married to Bekah High, and the couple has two daughters - Allie and Hannah.
