Taylor Whitter joined the University of Tennessee Sports Medicine Staff in July 2024 and serves as the primary athletic trainer for the M/W Cross Country and T&F Distance teams. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she oversees two certified athletic training interns.
Whitter comes to Knoxville after having spent the previous four years at Oregon State University, where her primary focus was working with the Women's Cross Country and Track & Field programs. Prior to OSU, she was a full time staff member at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst working Field Hockey, M/W Cross Country, and M/W Track & Field. She has also completed an athletic training fellowship at Harvard University during the 2017-2018 academic year by participating in research, orthopedic and general medical clinic hours, as well as working with the Men's Water Polo, M/W Cross Country, M/W Track & Field, and M/W Tennis teams.
Whitter graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. She then completed her master's degree in Advanced Athletic Training from North Dakota State University while enrolled in their post-professional graduate athletic training program in 2017. As a graduate assistant athletic trainer for NDSU, she served as the athletic trainer for the Women’s Volleyball team and conducted research for the Kinsio Taping Association International.
Whitter has also served on the USATF Medical Staff for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials and the 2022 World Championships for Track & Field in Eugene, OR.
Whitter was awarded the Mid America Athletic Trainers Association Post-Professional Scholarship in 2016 and the Oregon Athletic Trainers' Society Young Professional Award in 2023.
Whitter is a board-certified athletic trainer and licensed through the Tennessee Board of Health. She is a certified Graston Technique Specialist (Level I and Level II), certified in Blood Flow Restriction Therapy through Owens Recovery Science, a Running Rehabilitation Specialist through the Institute for Athlete Regeneration, a Corrective Exercise Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, a Certified Kinesio Tape Practitioner through Kinesio Taping Association Internation, an Eating Disorder Informed Professional through the Eating Recovery Center, a Registered Orthopedic Technologist and an Orthopedic Brace Technologist through the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals, a Bodies in Motion Moderator through the University of North Texas, and trained through the Postural Respiration Instute in the Myokinematic Course and Postural Respiration. Additionally, she has served as an American Heart Association CPR instructor since 2022.
A native of Colorado Springs, CO, she now resides in Louisville, TN with her husband, Caleb, and their two Alaskan Malamutes.
