Lady Vols in Contention Through 36 Holes at Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Tennessee women's golf team began its fall portion of the 2026-27 schedule on Monday with the opening 36 holes of the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club.
The Lady Vols started the campaign on the right foot, sitting tied for third place among the field of 18 entering Tuesday's third and final round. Tennessee opened the day with a 1-under-par 283 in round one, before firing an even-par 284 in round two to close Monday at 1-under-par overall.
Florida sits atop the team standings through two rounds at nine-under-par, while Baylor is the other team ahead of Tennessee at 4-under-par. The Lady Vols are tied with Arkansas, who also sit at 1-under-par, and one stroke ahead of LSU at even-par.
Junior Sophie Christopher leads Tennessee with a 3-under-par 36-hole score. The Germantown, Tenn., native came out of the gates firing, carding birdies on three of her first four holes en route to a 4-under-par 67 in round one, Tennessee's best round of the day. After a 1-over-par 72 in round two, Christopher is in sixth place among the field of 96 through 36 holes, four strokes back of the individual lead.
Freshman An Le Chuc made an instant impact in her Tennessee debut, sitting in the top ten through two rounds. After opening her account with a back-and-forth 1-over-par round of 72, Chuc excelled with the Lady Vols' best score in round two, firing a 3-under-par 68. At 2-under-par overall, she is tied for seventh place entering Tuesday's third round.
Reigning SEC Freshman of the Year Madison Messimer and senior Sofie Engesæth wrapped up the countable scoring for Tennessee on Monday. The pair both finished the day at 2-over-par, each firing an even-par 71 and a 2-over-par 73. The duo is tied for 27th place through 36 holes.
Tennessee will conclude the Cougar Classic with round three on Tuesday at Yeamans Hall Club. The Lady Vols will tee off from holes No. 1 through 3, with a shotgun start set for 8:45 a.m. ET.
