COLUMBIA, Mo. — Tennessee cross country turned in a strong showing Friday morning at the Gans Creek Classic, with the Volunteer men placing second in a 30-team field while the Lady Vols finished ninth out of 28 teams.

In the men's Gold 8k, the Vols totaled 75 points to finish runner-up behind No. 16 Arkansas (69) and ahead of No. 28 Missouri (230) and No. 30 Kansas (273). Tennessee put five runners inside the top 30, led by sophomore Nelson Mapi Setek, who placed eighth overall in a college-best 22:50.3.

Junior Zouhair Redouane followed closely behind in ninth at 22:50.8, while junior Ethan Edgeworth also posted a college-best mark, finishing 15th in 23:01.0. Sophomore transfer Victor Kipkoech made his Tennessee debut with a 17th-place finish in 23:14.7, and Ty Steorts rounded out Tennessee's scoring five in 29th at a college-best 23:26.6.

On the women's side, Tennessee finished ninth in Friday's Gold 6k with 272 points. Freshman standout Faith Chepchumba paced the Lady Vols with a 12th-place finish in 19:51.5 in her first-career 6k competition.

Senior Summer Schuster and junior Tula Fawbush finished in close succession, placing 50th and 51st in 20:42.0 and 20:42.6, respectively. Graduate student Kaitlyn Vanderkolk (67th, 20:57.6) and junior Haley Loewe (104th, 21:17.4) completed Tennessee's scoring five.

UP NEXT: The Vols and Lady Vols travel to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Nuttycombe Invitational, set for Friday, Oct. 9.
