Flanagan, Kreft, Sweep SEC Weekly Award
April 24, 2026 | Rowing
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After a dominating performance in New Jersey, a pair of Tennessee rowers earned weekly conference honors on Friday afternoon. Senior Meg Flanagan was named the SEC's Rower of the Week, while Stella Kreft collected Freshman of the Week honors.
Â
This marks the second time this month that two Lady Vol rowers swept the league's weekly honors. Earlier this month, Alex Pidgeon earned Rower of the Week, with Frida Werner Foldager named the Freshman of the Week.
Â
Flanagan sat in the stroke seat for the Big Orange during last weekend's regatta against a trio of top ten programs in Yale, Virginia, and Princeton. The Lady Vols crossed the line with a time of 6:12.1, nearly three seconds ahead of second place Princeton. On the campaign, the 1V8 boat now won four consecutive races, with wins over seven top 20 opponents.
Â
In the 2V4, first-year rower Stella Kreft was integral to the Tennessee win in New Jersey. Kreft sat in the stroke seat for the 2V4 crew to help notch the win. The 2V4 boat finished with a time of 7:19.7, holding off Yale's crew who finished with a time of 7:23.6. It was a hard fought race throughout, with Yale making a late charge to steal the victory, but Kreft's effort helped hold off the charge and secure the win for the Lady Vols.
Â
This continues an impressive run for the Lady Vols over the last two races. After sweeping its success at the Rocky Top Invite and the Princeton meet, Tennessee has put together one of the best résumés in the country. Across the two competitions the Lady Vols have beaten seven ranked opponents, including #5 Yale, #6 Princeton, #8 Virginia, #13 Duke, #15 Alabama, #18 UCLA, and #21 Pennsylvania.
Â
Tennessee has a break before they get back on the water on May 10 for the SEC Championships. This year's conference championships will once again be in Oak Ridge, Tenn. at Melton Hill Lake.
