Messimer Named SEC Freshman of the Week
March 11, 2026 | Women's Golf
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Madison Messimer has been named the SEC Women's Golf Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.
In a debut season full of impressive accomplishments, Messimer checked a big box off of the list with the first individual victory of her collegiate career this week at the Chris Banister Golf Classic.
The highly touted freshman out of South Carolina finished atop the 93-golfer leaderboard with a final tally of 2-under-par. After posting back-to-back 1-over-par rounds of 73 in the opening two rounds of the event, Messimer climbed to the top with a 4-under-par 68 in round three, her lowest single-round score to par this season. With the strong final round, she closed the tournament as the only golfer below par, finishing two strokes ahead of teammate Kyra Van Kan, who claimed runner-up honors.
Beyond the individual performance, Messimer helped the No. 19/20 Lady Vols to the team championship at the Chris Banister Golf Classic. Tennessee marked a 35-stroke margin of victory, tied for the third largest in program history, to claim the team's third win of the season, which matches the most wins in a single season in the history of Tennessee women's golf.
Wednesday's freshman of the week nod marks the second time this spring Messimer has received the honor.
The Lady Vols will return to action March 27-29 at the Clemson Invitational in Messimer's home state of South Carolina.
