KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 16 Tennessee had a big day as the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate continued on Monday with round two at Cherokee Country Club.
The Lady Vols soared to an 11-under-par 273 in round two, the only score under par by any of the 15 teams in the field, to climb to first place at 15-under-par through 36 holes. Tennessee holds a seven-stroke advantage over second-place Baylor, who held steady at 8-under-par with an even-par 284 on Monday. High Point, who entered the day with the lead, rounds out the top three at 7-under-par.
Kyra Van Kan was Tennessee's best performer in round two, securing a 5-under-par 66, the joint-lowest round by any golfer among the field of 81 in the tournament thus far. The junior's momentous round, consisting of six birdies and just one bogey, saw her climb 30 spots up the individual standings. At 3-under-par, she is tied for fourth place and five back of the individual lead entering Tuesday's final round.
Madison Messimer remains the Lady Vols' biggest threat for the individual title through 36 holes. The sophomore fired her second consecutive round in the 60s, carding a 2-under-par 69, featuring just one bogey, to improve to a 6-under-par 36-hole score. Currently in second place, Messimer is just two shots back of the individual lead with 18 holes to play.

The senior from Oslo, Norway, had four birdies and just one bogey in her round to climb into the individual top 10. At 2-under-par for the tournament, she is tied for 10th place ahead of round three on Tuesday.
Tennessee's final countable score in round two was recorded by An Le Chuc. The freshman from Vietnam earned the Lady Vols' fourth score of the day under par, closing with a 1-under-par 70. With back-to-back rounds of par or better, Chuc is tied for 14th place at 1-under-par.
Despite her even-par round of 71 not counting toward the team total today, Sophie Christopher also sits in the top 15 with 18 holes to go. The junior is tied with Chuc for 14th place at 1-under-par.
