Herrington Advances to Semifinals at 125th U.S. Amateur

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Tennessee sophomore golfer Jackson Herrington advanced to the semifinals at the 125th U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club Friday night after winning his quarterfinal match against Jimmy Abdo, 4&2.Â
The Dickson, Tennessee, native becomes the first Vol golfer to advance to the semifinals at the U.S. Amateur since Oliver Goss did so in 2013.Â
Herrington, who is making his second consecutive and second career U.S. Amateur start, will face off against Scotland and UNC's Niall Shiels Donegan in the semifinals on Saturday. Golf Channel will have the coverage from 3-6 p.m. ET.Â
The long-hitting lefty qualified for match play at the U.S. Amateur for the second year in a row after putting up a 2-over 36-hole total in the stroke play portion to earn the No. 37 seed.Â
Following stroke play, Herrington went on to a round of 64 match on Wednesday against No. 28 Chase Nevins. The match went the full 18 holes as Herrington came out on top, 1up.Â
The sophomore then gritted out a solid 36-hole showing on Thursday, claiming his round of 32 match versus Brady Siravo, 4&3, and coming out on top of his round of 16 match with Caleb Bond that lasted 20 holes.Â
