Simpson Qualifies for 125th U.S. Open at Oakmont

DALLAS, Texas – After a stellar showing in sectional qualifying at Bent Tree Country Club, Tennessee men's golf redshirt junior Lance Simpson qualified for the 125th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
Simpson turned in an 8-under showing on golf's longest day to secure one of seven spots in the U.S. Open after carding a 69 in round one and a 65 in the second round.
The Knoxville native's second round propelled him 18 spots up the leaderboard to secure a top-four finish in the final qualifier.
Last time out in the collegiate circuit, Simpson helped guide the Vols to their second consecutive NCAA Championships appearance after a final-round 66 that earned him a sixth-place individual finish.
Simpson and the Vols will head to Carlsbad, California, for the NCAA Championships which begins Friday at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa's Champions Course.
