#6 Lady Vols Close Big Ten Invitational with Statement 1V8 Win

SARASOTA, Fla – The sixth-ranked Tennessee rowing team closed out its weekend at the Big Ten Invitational Saturday morning with a strong statement in the first varsity eight race, earning a marquee win over No. 3 Washington and four other top-14 teams at Nathan Benderson Park.

The Lady Vols' 1V8+ boat clocked a final time of 6:20.834, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of the Huskies (6:22.568) and comfortably ahead of No. 7 Brown (6:29.397), No. 12 Michigan (6:30.702), No. 11 Penn (6:32.431), and No. 14 Ohio State (6:36.266). It marked Tennessee's most notable win of the weekend, capping a morning in which UT boats finished ahead of 18 ranked opponents across five races on the day.

In the second varsity eight race, Tennessee put down a time of 6:35.678 to take third behind Washington and Brown, beating out Michigan, Penn, and Ohio State.

The Lady Vols' 1V4+ group turned in a third-place finish with a time of 7:19.924, edging Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn, but trailing top-two finishers Washington and Brown.

In the 2V4+ event, Tennessee again placed third, narrowly holding off Brown with a time of 7:26.790. The Lady Vols finished behind Washington and Michigan but ahead of Brown, Penn and Ohio State.

UT's 3V8+ lineup was responsible for one of two Tennessee race wins on the day, crossing the line in 6:45.087 to beat four ranked teams in Rutgers, Ohio State, Duke and Michigan. The Lady Vols were the only boat to post a time under 6:50 in the event.

The loaded 23-team field in Sarasota consisted of 13 teams ranked in the top 25 of the CRCA's national poll, with 11 in the top 20, seven in the top 14 and four in the top nine.
Tennessee next heads to West Windsor, New Jersey, for a Saturday, April 26, regatta that will be hosted by Princeton and will also include Ohio State and Syracuse.
