Women’s Tennis Central: #6 Tennessee vs. #25 South Carolina, at #1 Georgia

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 6 Tennessee women's tennis team will return home to face No. 25 South Carolina, before hitting the road to take on top-ranked Georgia. The Lady Vols will play the Gamecocks at noon on Friday at Barksdale Stadium, before traveling to play on the Bulldogs at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Last weekend, Tennessee posted a 4-2 victory against No. 71 Ole Miss, before falling 4-0 to No. 10 LSU. During the win against the Rebels, Elza Tomase, Francesca Mattioli and Vanesa Suarez each etched a victory.
Mattioli made her singles debut versus Ole Miss, taking her decision in straight sets against Rachel Krzyak, 6-4, 6-4. Surez clinched the match against the Rebels, tallying her second straight clinch, she has now clinched back-to-back clinches at No. 67 Kentucky and against Ole Miss.
The Big Orange have knocked off five ranked opponents thus far, defeating No. 15 Texas Tech, No. 15 Pepperdine, No.4 Stanford, No. 67 Kentucky and No. 71 Ole Miss.
MILESTONE TRACKER: Head Coach Alison Ojeda is approaching 200 career wins. She currently owns 196 triumphs, with 151 of them coming at Tennessee. Ojeda will join two previous Tennessee head coaches, Mike Patrick and Sonia Hanhn-Patrick, who have hit the 200 mark in their careers.
A PEEK AT THE CHARTS: The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on March 4 that the squad is No. 6 in the sixth poll of 2025. The No. 6 ranking is the highest the Lady Vols have achieved in the Alison Ojeda era. The following members of the team were ranked in the third spring ITA individual poll posted on March 4, 2025:

SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS: The Lady Vols lead the all-time series, 38-24, against South Carolina. Fifteen of Tennessee's 38 wins are in Knoxville. The last time the two teams met was last season in Columbia, S.C., when the Gamecocks edged the Big Orange in a 4-3 affair on March 10, 2024. The Gamecocks own a 7-4 overall record and 2-1 conference mark thus far in the season.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Georgia holds the all-time edge, 56-9, against Tennessee. The Lady Vols' last victory over the Bulldogs was in a 4-1 triumph on April 23, 2011, at the SEC Tournament. The last time the two teams met was last season, when Georgia produced a 4-0 win over the Big Orange on April 20, 2024, in the SEC Tournament. Georgia owns a 10-1 overall record and a 3-0 conference mark thus far.
