
Vols, Lady Vols Best No. 15/15 Alabama in Road Dual

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Several Vols and Lady Vols broke facility records, as Tennessee swimming & diving came out victorious in a pair of top-15 matchups against Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Don Gambril Olympic Pool in the Alabama Aquatic Center.

The fifth-ranked Lady Vols cruised past the No. 15 Crimson Tide, 190-109, while the No. 9 Vols bested 15th-ranked Alabama, 189-111. The women won 13 of the 16 events throughout the meet, and the men were the winners 12 times.

Big Orange athletes broke a staggering eight pool records on the day, including two each for Jordan Crooks and Camille Spink. UT also saw four top-10 times and scores posted.

Tennessee's Eight Pool Records
- Crooks shattered the records for the 50 free (18.62) and 100 fly (45.23). The previous 50 free pool record was held by Olympic gold medalist and current long course meter world record holder Cesar Cielo.
- Crooks was also a member of the Tennessee 200 medley (1:23.82) and 200 free (1:15.69) relays that set facility records. He anchored the 200 medley relay that also included Ryan Williams, Kevin Houseman and Gui Caribe. The 200 free relay consisted of Caribe, Lamar Taylor, Nikoli Blackman and Crooks.
- Camille Spink broke two records to pace the Lady Vols, posting the fastest marks in the 50 free (21.65) and 100 free (47.69).
- Ella Jansen posted a 1:54.86 effort in the 200 fly to set a new record.
- Bennett Greene recorded a 386.93 mark on men's 1-meter to set a new aquatic center record.
- Freshman Ella Jansen had an impressive day, recording a pair of new top-10 marks. She posted the No. 6 time in the 400 IM at 4:06.06 and moved into ninth in the 200 fly thanks to a 1:54.86 effort.
- Continuing his hot streak, freshman Bennett Greene posted the eighth-best score (386.93) in program history on 1-meter en route to his fourth straight victory in the event.
- The Vols' opened the meet with the ninth-fastest time in school history in the 200 medley relay, as the lineup of Ryan Williams, Kevin Houseman, Gui Caribe and Jordan Crooks touched the wall in 1:23.82.Â
- In total, eight different Vols and Lady Vols finished the meet with multiple individual victories (Jordan Crooks, Brooklyn Douthwright, Jed Garner, Bennett Greene, Ella Jansen, Kate McCarville, Lynae Shorter, Camille Spink). Tennessee had the top performer in each diving event, won three of the four relays and swept six events on the day.
- Kate McCarville swept the distance freestyles and added a third-place finish in another event. She had the top times in the 500 free (4:44.93) and 1000 free (9:44.57). She posted a time of 4:14.51 in the 400 IM to round out her day.
- Brooklyn Douthwright claimed the victories in the 200 free (1:44.92) and the 100 fly (52.76). She also finished third in the 100 free (49.09).
- Jed Garner swept the breaststroke events, touching the wall in 53.65 in the 100 and 1:56.65 in the 200.
- Lynae Shorter swept the springboard events for her first wins of the season. She kicked off the day by cruising to the victory on 3-meter, notching a 312.00 effort. She followed that up with a win on 1-meter with a score of 276.83.
- The reigning SEC Men's Diver of the Week, Bennett Greene swept the springboard events and moved his win total to eight on the season. In addition to his top-10 school effort on 1-meter, he led a Big Orange sweep on 3-meter with a score of 402.83.
- The Lady Vols had the top four times in the 200 free, as Douthwright claimed the victory followed by Julia Mrozinski (1:45.20), Emily Brown (1:46.35) and Julia Burroughs (1:47.86).
- The Lady Vols had the top four times in the 200 back. Josephine Fuller (1:53.58) led the way followed by Sophie Brison (1:54.58), Lexi Stephens (1:55.77) and Regan Rathwell (1:56.32). Fuller also finished second in the 200 fly.
- The Big Orange men swept the 50 free race, with Crooks leading the way behind a 18.62 time. He was followed by Lamar Taylor (19.42) and Caribe (19.61).
- The Vols had four of the five fastest times in the 100 free, as Caribe claimed the win behind a 42.42 effort. Taylor posted another second-place finish thanks to a time of 42.49. Nikoli Blackman (43.35) and Pedro Sansone (43.54) took fourth and fifth in the event.
- The Lady Vols swept the 100 fly behind the efforts from Douthwright (52.76), Brown (52.90) and Jansen (52.92), while the Vols recorded the top two times in the men's race. Crooks won the competition followed by Bjorn Kammann (46.55) in second.
- The Tennessee men swept the 3-meter diving event, as Greene came in first followed by Nick Stone (351.08) and Owen Redfearn (334.80). Stone also finished second on 1-meter thanks to a score of 338.25.
- Martin Espernberger came in first in the 200 fly thanks to a 1:45.08 mark, as four of the top five times were held by Vols. He also took third in the 500 free, touching the wall in 4:29.46.
- Tony Laurito finished first in the 400 IM thanks to a 3:46.99 effort, while Gus Rothrock finished second in 3:49.63. Four of the top five times were held by the Big Orange.
- Harrison Lierz won the men's 100 back with a time of 45.84 and came in second in the 200 back (1:43.03)
- McKenzie Siroky posted the top time in the women's 100 breast at 59.31.
- Maddie Reese posted a pair of third-place finishes in diving, scoring a 256.88 on 1-meter and a 285.15 on 3-meter.
- In the women's 200 medley relay, the lineup of Josephine Fuller, McKenzie Siroky, Sara Stotler and Camille Spink posted the top time with a 1:35.28 effort.
