SOFTBALL CENTRAL: Gainesville Super Regional

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The 12th seeded Tennessee Lady Vols look to earn their eighth berth in the Women's College World Series when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., this weekend to take on No. 5 seed Florida in NCAA Super Regionals.

After going 3-1 in its Regional at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium last week, UT (42-15) now turns its attention to the Gators (47-15) for a best two-out-of-three series to determine which team advances to Oklahoma City. Game 1 of the series will take place on Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. ET at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

Game 1 of the series will be broadcast live on ESPN2, with the second game airing on ESPN. Game 3 will also be on ESPNU. Eric Frede and Madison Shipman will be on the call for all three games.

The Lady Vols went 3-1 in the 2019 Knoxville Regional, downing Longwood, Ohio State and North Carolina.
Tennessee earned a top-12 seed in the tournament for the 10th time since 2005. During those games the Orange and White own a 31-2 record in Regionals.
Tennessee hosted its 15th consecutive NCAA Regional last week. The streak started in 2005 when the Lady Vols were tabbed the No. 11 seed. UT has only been knocked out of the tournament four times (2016, 2011, 2009 and 2008) in the Regional round when hosting.
Since February 20, 2004, the Lady Vols have played 1,025 games in a row as a ranked team. During that span, UT is 43-10 as a regional host.

Scouting Report

FLORIDA

Head coach Tim Walton is in his 14th year at the helm of the Gators' squad. Last season, he led the program to its fourth straight SEC Regular Season Championship and in 2019, he saw the Gators crowned SEC Tournament Champions for the second straight year.
After cruising through regionals in 2018, Florida fell in the WCWS to No. 4 Oklahoma to cap the 2018 season with a 56-11 record.
One of three players to start all 62 games this season, Amanda Lorenz leads the Gators with a .424 batting average, 73 hits, 12 doubles and fourtriples. Her .733 slugging percentage and .560 on-base percentage are also tops on the squad. Lorenz is the active NCAA career leader in walks with 232 free passes.
Kelly Barnhill ranks first in the circle for Florida, having allowed 58 runs on 129 hits through 256.0 innings of work. She boasts a 1.48 ERA and 327 strikeouts in 47 appearances. Barnhill's 32-11 record, three saves, 26 complete games and 13 shutouts also lead the staff.
