KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Caylan Arnold recorded seven strikeouts in a complete-game, shutout performance to lead No. 6/7 Tennessee to a 6-0 victory over No. 20/18 Kentucky on Sunday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Arnold yielded just four hits on the day and improved to 21-4 with the winning decision. The Lady Vols (42-10, 12-9 SEC) got an early lead in the first inning before opening up the score with four runs in the third. In the first, Meghan Gregg continued her strong offensive weekend by taking a 1-0 pitch over the center field wall for her 15th home run of the season.
UT poured in four more runs in the third frame to take a commanding lead. Gregg got the party started once again with a one-out double to right center, and Haley Bearden singled three batters later to score pinch runner Brooke Langston. Freshman Ashley Morgan stepped in next and hit a three-run shot past the right field bleachers that made it 5-0 in favor of the home team.
Tennessee would add another in the sixth, as CJ McClain sprinted home from third base on a ground ball to the shortstop and was able to beat out the throw.Â
Grace Baalman took the loss for the Wildcats (29-17, 6-14 SEC), and falls to 11-7 this season.
UP NEXT: The Lady Vols wrap up their regular season schedule next weekend with a three-game road series at Mississippi State. Game 1 will take place on Friday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. ET.Â
