#15 South Carolina Rallies Past #2 Tennessee, 5-4

COLUMBIA, S.C. – One hit proved to be the difference in another close game between No. 2 Tennessee and No. 15 South Carolina as the Lady Vols fell to the Gamecocks, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at Carolina Softball Stadium. Â

Tennessee (30-3, 3-2 SEC) held a 4-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh, but South Carolina (27-4, 4-1 SEC) scored three runs in the final frame to take the series.

South Carolina jumped out two a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Cayla Drotar grounded out to the first baseman and scored Menzi Maguire. Mackenzie Boesel scored on a passed ball with two outs.

Tennessee plated four runs in the top of the third inning. Brooke Vines hit her first home run of the season over the right field wall to score Aubrey Leach and CJ McClain. Three batters later, Chelsea Seggern doubled down the left field line to score Meghan Gregg to push UT's lead to 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Drotar hit a foul ball down the right field line that was caught by the first baseman and Maguire scored after tagging up. With two outs, Kennedy Clark hit the game-winning double to left center that scored Jordyn Augustus and Boesel.

Caylan Arnold fell to 13-1 on the season after striking out two and allowing three runs over 2.2 innings in relief. Tennessee starter Matty Moss allowed just one earned run with a strikeout in four innings of work.

South Carolina's Cayla Drotar (13-1) earned the win after throwing the complete game and allowing four runs.
