Women's Tennis Downs Georgia State, 4-1

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The 18th-ranked Tennessee women's tennis team earned its 11th consecutive win on Saturday, beating Georgia State, 4-1, at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
The Lady Vols (11-0) took an early lead by claiming the doubles point. After the Panthers tied things up at 1-1, UT won the next three courts to seal the victory and extend its win streak to the second-longest in program history, trailing 14 straight wins in 1980.
In doubles, Sadie Hammond and Gabby Schuck got things going with a 6-1 win over Damira Muminovic and Kristin Rehse on Court 1. Tenika McGiffin and Elizabeth Profit quickly followed that up with a victory on Court 3, downing Elizabet Danailova and Arina Taluyenko, 6-1.
Georgia State tied things up with a win at the top spot to begin singles, Johanna Silva regained the lead for Tennessee, breezing past Muminovic in a 6-0, 6-2 match. Chelsea Sawyer took a tight first set before running away with her match on Court 6, 7-6, 6-0.
Schuck clinched the match for the Lady Vols after a hard-fought 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Taluyenko. The victory improved her team-best record to 9-0 during dual-match play.
Tennessee plays at 10 a.m. again tomorrow, facing Florida Gulf Coast to cap off the weekend before beginning SEC play.
