Tennessee Softball Upends Northwestern

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Chelsea Seggern drove in three runs, and Caylan Arnold struck out a season-high 13, as the No. 11 Tennessee softball team defeated Northwestern 6-1 on Saturday in the Mary Nutter Classic.
The Lady Vols improved to 16-1 on the season.
Jenna Holcomb got the scoring started in the bottom of the third with an RBI single, before Seggern delivered later in the frame. With the bases loaded, she raked a double to right center, clearing the bases and giving Tennessee a 4-0 lead.
Northwestern got on the board in the top of the sixth, but the Lady Vols answered with a pair in the bottom of the frame.
Two singles and a walk loaded the bases once again, before an Aubrey Leach single up the middle brought home Amanda Ayala and Brooke Langston to give the Lady Vols a 6-1 lead.
Arnold went the distance, giving up just three hits and one run in picking up her sixth win of the season.
Holcomb was 2-for-4 at the plate, while Leach had two RBIs.
