KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After jumping out to a fast start in the opening inning, Matty Moss helped No. 15/15 Tennessee hold off Ohio's comeback efforts in a 2-1 win Thursday evening at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The sophomore right-hander was solid in relief, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings with one hit allowed en route to improving to 9-0 on the season.

Ohio's Savannah Jo Dorsey put forth a valiant effort in the circle, pitching 6.0 innings and striking out five Volunteers in the process.

Tennessee (15-2) got off to a fast start after capitalizing on Ohio's early struggles. Dorsey threw six straight balls to open the game for the Bobcats (9-2). Meghan Gregg doubled to left center, bringing in Brooke Vines and Aubrey Leach to put the Volunteers up 2-0.

Morgan Geno got the Bobcats on the board in the third with a single to the right field wall, allowing Alex Day to come home, narrowing Tennessee's lead to 2-1.

Freshman pitcher Caylan Arnold got the start and went 3.1 innings with two strikeouts while allowing just one run on five hits.

HAVE A DAY: Gregg ended the first day of the Tennessee Invitational with six RBIs. Her performance against Ohio brought her season total to 29, the most RBIs in the country.

CONTROLING THE GAME: After a shutout performance in Tennessee's 8-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana in the afternoon, Matty Moss capped the day with another 3.2 scoreless innings for a total of 9.1 shutout innings over two games. She allowed a total of five hits and struck out 7 batters.
