Vols Split Doubleheader

ATLANTA -- The Tennessee women's tennis team split its doubleheader on Sunday against Furman and No. 11 Georgia Tech.
In the first match of the day, the Vols (7-1) outlasted Furman after dropping the doubles point. Sadie Hammond downed Danni Vines, 6-1, 6-1, on Court 2 to tie the match at 1-1. Eve Repic and Johanna Silva picked up wins on their courts to give UT the lead. Ariadna Riley came from behind to clinch the match for Tennessee, defeating Katarina Kozarov, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, to give the Vols a 4-2 win.
"We knew all week this was going to be a tough match," head coach Alison Ojeda said after the match. "Both teams fought extremely hard and both teams deserved to win. The reason we were able to come out on top is because we were able to stay focused from start to finish. I'm extremely proud of our team."
The second match of the day was all Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets shut out Tennessee for its first loss of the season, 7-0.
Tennessee returns home next Sunday, hosting Indiana and Liberty at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
