STATESBORO, Ga. -- Tennessee completed its doubleheader sweep on opening day with a hard-fought 4-0 victory over Middle Tennessee on Friday at the Eagle Round Robin.

Matty Moss went the distance to earn her first win of 2017, allowing just three hits while striking out five in a shutout effort. The win extended the Volunteers' win streak over in-state opponents to 90 consecutive games.

The game was scoreless entering the bottom of the sixth inning before UT busted things open with four runs in the frame. Megan Geer got the Vols on the board with an RBI double before Meghan Gregg, Jenna Holcomb and Abby Lockman all drove in runs later in the inning to make it 4-0.

Brooke Vines and Scarlet McSwain led the team with two hits apiece in the game while Holcomb smacked her second triple of the day to drive in her first-career run. Freshman infielder Chelsea Seggern also picked up her first-career hit in the game.

Middle Tennessee (0-1) starter Cori Jennings was impressive as well, stifling the Vols for five-plus innings before Geer finally broke through with her RBI double. Payton Grove, Summer Burgess and Austyn Whaley accounted for the Blue Raiders' three hits.

THE STREAK REMAINS INTACT: Tennessee extended its winning streak against in-state foes to 90 straight games with today's pair of victories. The Vols are 85-0 against fellow Tennessee schools under Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly.

MOSS DOMINATE IN SEASON DEBUT: Sophomore pitcher Matty Moss was dominant in her season debut, tossing a complete-game shutout with five strikeouts. It was the third shutout of Moss' career.

TRIPLE MACHINE: True freshman Jenna Holcomb collected two hits on her first day of collegiate action, both triples.
