POSTGAME NOTES
Tennessee Tidbits
- The Vols extended their winning streak to nine games. It’s the longest UT win streak since the Vols won 14 in row, spanning a 13-0 1998 season to a victorious first game in 1999.
- UT is 3-0 for the first time since 2004.
- Tennessee improved its all-time record to 823-371-53, standing in ninth place among FBS programs.
- The Vols are now 456-123-17 in their 95th season at Neyland Stadium.
- UT is one of just four schools (Alabama-14, San Diego State-12, Tennessee-9 and Georgia-7) with active win streaks of seven or more games.
- Tennessee extended its winning streak to 25 games vs. unranked non-conference foes during the regular season.
- Butch Jones improved to 24-17 in his fourth year at Tennessee and is 74-44 in this 10th season overall.
- Butch Jones improved to 62-5 in his career when leading at halftime.
- UT improved to 13-1 in games televised by the SEC Network.
- Tennessee snapped a four-game losing skid in games played on Sept. 17 and now stands 2-4 all-time on that date.

Vol Captains/Coin Toss
- Head coach Butch Jones announced Tennessee’s full-season captains at halftime of the 2016 DISH Orange & White Game. The appointed leaders are senior quarterback Joshua Dobbs, redshirt junior tailback Alvin Kamara, senior defensive back Cameron Sutton and senior linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin.
- The Vols have not had full-season designees since 2011, with captains named on a game-by-game basis from 2012-15.
- Ohio won the coin toss and deferred until the second half.
- Tennessee is now 1-3 in coin tosses this season, include 1-2 pregame and 0-1 in overtime.
Series Notes
- Tennessee and Ohio met for the second time, and UT improved to 2-0.
- The Vols are now 7-0 vs. current members of the Mid-American Conference.
- The Bobcats are now 2-12 against current SEC members.
- Ohio fell to 0-27 all-time vs. ranked opponents.
Tennessee Lineup News
- Redshirt sophomore Rashaan Gaulden got his first career start, getting the nod at nickleback in the absence of Malik Foreman. Gaulden was second on the team with a career-best seven tackles.
- Junior Colton Jumper got his first start of the season and fourth of his career at middle linebacker. He replaced the injured Darrin Kirkland Jr. in the lineup and had a career-high seven tackles.
- UT shuffled its offensive line, going with Brett Kendrick at left tackle, Jashon Robertson at left guard, Dylan Wiesman at center, Jack Jones at right guard and Coleman Thomas at right tackle. It was Thomas’ first start at RT since the Georgia game last season.
Offensive Highlights
- Tennessee now has scored in 276 straight games, which is the fourth-longest active streak in the NCAA.
- UT ran its streak to 18 consecutive games with a rushing TD, dating back to 2014.
- Tennessee was about as balanced in yardage as it could get Saturday afternoon, passing for 203 and rushing for 201 vs. the Bobcats for a season-high 404 total yards.
- After six straight drives that ended with no points (five punts and end of half), Tennessee scored on consecutive drives to take a 28-19 lead that ended up being the final score.
- Josh Malone caught a touchdown pass for the third straight game, pulling down a 20-yarder from Joshua Dobbs on Tennessee’s opening drive and then another 20-yarder in the fourth period.
- With two TD grabs today, Malone now has four on the season. Malone entered 2016 with three receiving touchdowns total over the previous two seasons.
- Malone led UT in receiving yards for the third straight game, hauling in five balls from Joshua Dobbs for 69 yards.
- The opening-drive TD was Tennessee’s first touchdown in the first quarter this season, and UT ended the opening stanza with a lead for the first time in 2016.
- Dobbs, who finished 19 of 27 for 203 yards, has thrown for at least one TD in each game this season.
- The 200-yard passing game was the first of the season for Dobbs and the ninth of his career. His last 200-yard throwing game was vs. South Carolina last season (255).
- Dobbs has accounted for nine of Tennessee’s 12 touchdowns this season, running for three and passing for six.
- Dobbs added a third-quarter rushing touchdown (a 13-yard play) and needs two to tie Jimmy Streater for most rushing TDs by a QB at UT.
- Dobbs passed Tee Martin (4,592, 1996-99) and moved into seventh place on UT’s career passing yards list. Dobbs now has 4,678 career passing yards.
- Jalen Hurd scored on a one-yard plunge early in the second quarter, charting his second TD run of the season and 19th of his career.
- With 15 carries today (for 67 yards), Hurd moved past Curt Watson (529, 1969-71) and James Stewart (531, 1991-94) into fifth place for career rushing attempts at Tennessee.
- With three receptions for 54 yards, this was Jason Croom’s best game since catching three passes for 87 yards and a TD vs. Kentucky on Nov. 15, 2014.
- Freshman wide receiver Tyler Byrd had his first career catch, a 15-yarder.
- Tennessee converted on 50 percent (7 of 14) of its third downs vs. Ohio.
Defensively Speaking
- After allowing Ohio to score (four field goals) on four of its first five possessions, Tennessee’s defense stiffened. UT forced the Bobcats to punt on their next five drives spanning the second and third quarters until Ohio hit paydirt with 1:09 to go in the third for its final score of the day.
- After allowing 184 rushing yards to Appalachian State and 186 to Virginia Tech, Tennessee held Ohio to 88.
- UT allowed the Bobcats to convert on only six of their 20 third down opportunities.
- Emmanuel Moseley led Tennessee with a career-high eight stops, while Rashaan Gaulden and Colton Jumper had a career-best seven and Baylen Buchanan registered the first five stops of his career while playing in place of the injured Cameron Sutton for the final three quarters of the game.
- Tennessee played without senior nickleback Malik Foreman, who was suspended for a violation of team rules.
- With Darrin Kirkland Jr., LaTroy Lewis and Justin Martin already out with injuries, Tennessee captains Sutton and Jalen Reeves-Maybin as well as Quart’e Sapp left Saturday’s game due to injuries.
- The Vols got pass deflections from defensive linemen Corey Vereen (2) and Danny O’Brien.
- Also getting PBUs were Todd Kelly Jr., Emmanuel Moseley and Baylen Buchanan.
- While Derek Barnett didn’t get to the quarterback his two hurries and five tackles were important to Tennessee’s patchwork defense vs. Ohio.
Special Teams
- Junior kicker Aaron Medley now has scored 241 points and stands eighth at Tennessee for points scored in a career.
- Medley now is 44-of-62 on career field goal attempts, including 3-5 this season after missing a 55-yarder in the first quarter.
- Medley was 4-of-4 on PATs. He is now 109-of-110 for his career.
- Trevor Daniel averaged 39.3 yards on six punts, including one inside the 20 and one of 50 or more yards. He now has 32 inside the 20 in his career and 26 kicks of 50 or more yards.
Upon Further Review
- Micah Abnernathy fumbled on a first-quarter kickoff return and Tennessee recovered on the sideline at its own 34. The play was reviewed and officials marked the ball at the 30, ruling the ball could not be advanced forward by a fumble.
- An 18-yard TD pass from Joshua Dobbs to Jauan Jennings was reviewed. Officials overturned the call, ruling Jennings’ hand touched out of bounds at the one.
- On a pass play from Ohio’s Greg Windham to Troy Mangen in the fourth quarter, officials originally ruled the Bobcats were a yard short of first down. The spot of the ball was reviewed, and officials overturned the call, moving the ball upfield another yard and give Ohio the first down.
