CLOVIS, Calif. -- Tennessee's Ari Cogdell finished fourth in the men's 400-meter final on Sunday at the 2016 USA Junior Championships at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.
Cogdell clocked a 46.86 in the finals, making him a possible candidate for the USA junior men's 4x400 squad. Baylor's Will London III took first place in 45.61 with Missouri's Kahmari Montgomery (45.64) and Champion Allison (46.63) rounding out the top three. The two highest placing finishers in each event earn a spot on the USA National Team.
Cogdell advanced to Sunday's men's 400-meter final after clocking a 46.83 and taking second place in the first heat of Saturday's prelims.
Cogdell would be an outstanding candidate for Team USA's junior men's 4x400 as he just completed a strong freshman campaign at Tennessee in which he earned USTFCCCA First Team All-America indoor honors and USTFCCCA Second Team All-America outdoor honors for the men's 4x400.
Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif., hosted the 2016 USA Junior Championships from June 24-26. Athletes competing at the USA Junior Championships must be at least 14 years old on the day of competition but not turn 20 years old at any time in 2016. Those who qualify for Team USA this week will compete in the 2016 IAAF U20 World Championships (previously known as the World Juniors) from July 19-24 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
