UT Wins Women's 4x200 at Penn Relays
April 30, 2016 | Track & Field
PHILADELPHIA -- Tennessee earned a big win in the College Women's 4x200 Championship of America Invitational on Saturday at the 122nd Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
The quartet of Lenysse Dyer, Kali Davis-White, Felecia Majors and Felicia Brown had UT's most impressive performance of the three-day Penn Relays, winning the legendary wooden wheel that is the 4x200 crown with a time of 1:31.84. That time is the third-fastest women's 4x200 ever in Tennessee history.
"We have had some really good stuff at Penn Relays this year," Tennessee director of track and field and cross country Beth Alford-Sullivan said. "This has been a trying weekend. The weather on the first two days was not very helpful for anything we wanted to do. To pull off a few of the things we did this weekend with the first two days being like they were, I was very pleased. The 4x200 was awesome today. We were nervous out there. The sticks were a little scary, but they got it around and Fe Brown closed it down and gave us the championship. Being that this is our near future, it is nice to come home with at least one of these wheels."
Tennessee closed the day with a pair of second-place finishes by its men's and women's 4x400s. The UT men's squad of Ari Cogdell, Christian Coleman, Mustaqeem Williams and Nathan Strother clocked in at 3:07.75. The UT women's squad of Dyer, Brown, Layla White and Majors took it down to the wire finishing in 3:30.73, just 62 hundredths of a second behind first-place Oregon.
The Big Orange logged three more top-five individual performances on the men's side. Matthew Zajac took fourth in the men's discus throw championship with a throw of 55.63 meters (182-6) on his sixth throw. Cameron Brown finished fourth in the men's hammer throw championship with a PR of 64.90 meters (212-11) on his third throw. Tyler Porter cleared 5.05 meters (16-6.75) in the men's pole vault championship to earn fourth place. Top-seeded Jake Blankenship did not record a height in the pole vault.
UT next heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the 2016 SEC Outdoor Championships from May 12 to May 14.
