Vols Fall Short Against Arkansas, 4-3
April 02, 2016 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Junior Eve Repic picked up her second ranked win in singles on the season, but it wasn't enough as the Tennessee women's tennis team lost, 4-3, to No. 24 Arkansas at Barksdale Stadium Saturday.
The Volunteers (8-12, 1-8 SEC) fell behind early after dropping the doubles point to the Razorbacks (16-8, 5-4 SEC). Arkansas didn't let up, picking up wins on the first three courts to finish in singles to clinch the match. Tennessee kept fighting, though, winning each of the remaining three courts to end the match.
In doubles, the duo of freshman Kim Kermet and junior Brittany Lindl cruised to a 6-2 victory over Makenzie Craft and Flavia Araujo on Court 2.
The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker on Court 1 between the team of freshman Sadie Hammond and Repic against Yuliya Lysa and Shannon Hudson. The Vols led early, but a second effort by the Razorbacks tied things up at 6-6 and forced a tiebreaker. After going back and forth, Arkansas finally pulled ahead to clinch the doubles point with a 7-6 (7) win.
In singles, the Razorbacks won the first set on four out of the six courts and used that to clinch the match with wins on Courts 1, 5 and 6. The two teams decided to play out the rest of the courts, though.
Kermet picked up a win on Court 3, defeating Shannon Hudson, 6-1, 6-1. Lindl won her second match of the weekend with a win over Makenzie Craft, 6-3, 6-4.
In the final match of the day, Repic forced a third set after dropping the first set and winning the second. Her momentum continued, as she picked up her second ranked win of the season by beating No. 83 Ana Oparenovic, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4), on Court 2.
The Volunteers will be back in action next weekend, as the team travels to face Texas A&M on Friday at 6 p.m. and then LSU at noon on Sunday.
