Vols Shut Out by Aggies
April 08, 2016 | Women's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Tennessee women’s tennis team couldn’t find a rhythm against Texas A&M Friday, as the Vols were shut out, 7-0, at Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Volunteers (8-13, 1-9 SEC) went into a tiebreaker in doubles with the Aggies (14-8, 6-5 SEC), but A&M came out victorious to clinch the doubles point and carried the momentum over to singles, sweeping all six courts against Tennessee.
In doubles, the duo of senior Tiffany Tavares and freshman Margo Taylor downed Domenica Gonzalez and Ines Deheza, 6-3, on Court 3, forcing the point to be decided on Court 2. After being up 4-1, junior Brittany Lindl and freshman Kim Kermet fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5), to the team of Rutuja Bhosale and Anna Mamalat.
The Vols struggled in singles, getting swept in straight sets on five of the six courts and then losing the sixth in a third-set tiebreaker.
The Volunteers will be back in action Sunday, as the team travels to face No. 16 LSU at noon at the LSU Tennis Complex.
