KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- In its final match on the regular season, the Tennessee women's tennis team fell, 4-0, to fourth-ranked Florida Sunday at Barksdale Stadium on Senior Day.
The Volunteers (8-16, 1-12 SEC) dropped the doubles point to the Gators (18-2, 13-0 SEC) despite picking up a win on Court 3 due to retirement by UF. Florida took the match quickly in singles, winning three courts to end the match.
In doubles, the duo of freshman Mary Caroline Meredith and junior Ashlee Boles won their match against the 46th-ranked team of Peggy Porter and Spencer Liang after Porter was injured and unable to return, forcing them to retire. Florida went on to win the other courts, though, to take a 1-0 lead.
In singles, the Gators quickly won on Courts 3, 5 and 6 to end the match and finish the season undefeated in conference play.
The Volunteers will be back in action Wednesday for the first round of the SEC Tournament at the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge. UT will find out its opponent and start time Sunday evening once all the matches around the conference are completed.
