UT Set To Compete In Seminole Invitational
April 14, 2016 | Track & Field
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee is back in action this week as the Vols head to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete in this weekend's Seminole Invitational at Mike Long Track.
UT will field a full team with entries in the sprints, distance events, jumps, throws, pole vaults and relays.
Tennessee is coming off of a weekend of training in Knoxville as the Vols welcomed back past greats for the first-ever Tennessee Track and Field Alumni Reunion. UT honored former coach Terry Crawford and the 1981 AIAW national championship team.
"We are hungry to get out and compete again," Tennessee director of track and field and cross country Beth Alford-Sullivan said. "It was very beneficial to have a weekend in April where we could get some good training and work done. That's in the books and now I think everybody is anxious to get going on it. This is an invitational meet, there are a lot of schools involved and we are excited to just go in and grind it out."
Tennessee's sprinters and relay squads performed well two weeks ago at the Florida Relays. Christian Coleman clocked a 10.16 time in the 100 meters to notch a U.S. Trials and Olympic A Standard. The Big Orange sprint stars should have even more fireworks on display in Florida this weekend.
"I would like to see our relays continue to evolve," Sullivan said. "I would like to see our field events take another step forward on their attempts and their performances. I think we really have the expectations that we can be difference makers in all of our field events. In some of the individual open events, you are going to see Christian Coleman and Felicia Brown in the 200 meters. It will be a great opener for them in the 200 meters as they are coming off of their NCAA Indoor Championship wins."
The UT men will compete in five events on Friday and the women will be in action in two events. Tennessee's day starts at noon with Cameron Brown, Seth Whitener and Matthew Zajac competing in the men's hammer throw at noon ET.
