Vols Lose at Ohio State, 6-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio. -- The Tennessee women's tennis team fell on the road to No. 5 Ohio State, 6-1, at Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus Saturday.
The Volunteers (4-4) dropped their third consecutive match to ranked opponents following the loss to the Buckeyes (10-1). After losing the doubles point, Tennessee made a push to get back in the match, winning three of the first sets in singles, but the experience of Ohio State would prevail.
In doubles, the eighth-ranked duo of Miho Kowase and Anna Sanford downed the freshmen duo of Sadie Hammond and Mary Caroline Meredith, 6-1. It was the first time the two players had paired up in doubles this season. The Buckeyes sealed the doubles point with a win by Sandy Niehaus and Gabriella De Santis over junior Brittany Lindl and senior Tiffany Tavares, 6-2.
In singles, Hammond was tasked with facing off against the No. 1 singles player in the country in Francesca Di Lorenzo on Court 1. Hammond went up early, taking the first set 6-3, but Di Lorenzo would bounce back, winning the next two sets and taking the match, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Junior Eve Repic was the lone Vol to pick up a win on the day, defeating Gabriella De Santis in a tiebreaker for the third set, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0.
The Vols will return to action next weekend, travelling to Ft. Myers, Fla., to play Georgia State on Saturday and Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday. Both matches will be played at 10 a.m. ET at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
