Vols Fall to Georgia Tech, 5-2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The 59th-ranked Tennessee women's tennis team (4-2) fell, 5-2, against the No. 24 Georgia Tech (5-2) Friday at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets clinched the doubles point over the Vols, giving them a quick 1-0 lead. The momentum continued into singles, as Tech won four of the six first sets. The Volunteers won two matches and forced two more into third sets, but the lead was too much to overcome.
In doubles, the duo of Rasheeda McAdoo and Johnnise Renaud for Tech edged out freshmen Kim Kermet and Mary Caroline Meredith, 6-3, on Court 2. The Yellow Jackets clinched the doubles point with a victory on Court 3 by Megan Kurey and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer over junior Brittany Lindl and freshman Gabby Schuck, 6-2.
Freshman Sadie Hammond and junior Eve Repic faced off against the 58th ranked team of Kendal Woodard and Paige Hourigan on Court 1. The match was back-and-forth between the two teams. Georgia Tech took a 6-5 lead over the Vols before the match went unfinished with the doubles point clinched.
Hammond and Lindl both found success in singles for UT. Lindl defeated Anton-Ohlmeyer, 6-2, 6-2, on Court 5, putting her on a six-match winning streak. No. 100 Hammond upset No. 56 McAdoo on Court 1, winning the match 7-5, 6-3 and extending her winning streak to four matches.
Tennessee would drop the match, though, as the Yellow Jackets won four of the six singles matches, including two three-set matches forced by UT that ended in Georgia Tech’s favor.
The Vols will travel to Bloomington, Ind., Sunday to face the No. 63 Indiana Hoosiers at 11 a.m. at IU Tennis Center.
