January 12, 2016 | Track & Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Tennessee sophomore Christian Coleman was named SEC Men's Runner of the Week and UT senior Felicia Brown was named SEC Women's Runner of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
The Vols competed at the 21st Indiana-Tennessee Dual on Jan. 9 at Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind. The Tennessee women tied the Hoosiers, 61-61, and the men fell to IU, 66-47.
Coleman is UT's first SEC Men's Runner of the Week since he earned the honors on Feb. 10, 2015. Coleman also earned Men's Freshman of the Week twice in 2015 (Jan. 20, 2015 and Feb. 10, 2015).
Brown is Tennessee's first SEC Women's Runner of the Week since Nijgia Snapp earned the honors on Jan. 17, 2012.
Coleman scored in three events for UT. He won the 200m with a personal-record, meet-record and facility-record time of 21.04 at Gladstein Fieldhouse. That time ranks second in the nation and is also the sixth-fastest men's indoor 200m in Tennessee history. He also won the 60m in 6.68, which is currently tied for the sixth-best time in the nation. Coleman ran the second leg of the 4x400m which took first place in 3:12.31 (fifth-fastest in the nation).
Brown scored in two events. She won the women's 200m with a time of 23.20, setting a new personal best, meet record and facility record at Gladstein Fieldhouse. Brown's 23.20 is the fastest time in the nation and also stands as the third-fastest time in Tennessee history. It is the fastest UT women's indoor 200-meter mark since DeeDee Trotter ran a 23.19 in 2004. Brown ran the second leg of the 4x400m relay that took first place in 3:40.63 (second-fastest time in the nation).
Tennessee will compete in both the Commodore Invitational (Nashville, Tenn.) and the Virginia Tech Invitational (Blacksburg, Va.) from Jan. 15-16. UT and Auburn will co-host the Conference Clash: Power Five Invitational in Birmingham from Jan. 22-23.
