KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee women's golfer Anna Newell will be part of the field at the United States Golf Association Women's Amateur after being a medalist at the sectional qualifier at the Vero Beach Country Club in Vero Beach, Florida.
"This was the first time I tried to qualify for the women's amateur, and it feels great to qualify," Newell said. "It will be great experience and a good way to end my summer and prepare for the fall season at UT."
Newell shot the field's best round of 69 to automatically qualify as one of eight golfers that will move on to the championship event. The field of qualifiers featured a score of 70 and six posted scores of 71.
The championship event will be played at the Portland Golf Club in Portland, Oregon from August 10-16. The event features two rounds of stroke play with the top 64 advancing to match play.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to play in the Northwest since it will be my first time playing out there," Newell added.
