UT Finishes Third In Automatic Qualifier

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - Tennessee rowing finished its 2015 spring season with a third place finish in the automatic qualifier standings at the Big 12 Rowing Championship. Texas finished first, winning the Big 12 Championship and receiving the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships held in Sacramento, Calif. on May 29-31.
To begin the day, Tennessee's third varsity eight finished sixth with a time of 7 minutes and 47.04 seconds.
During the second varsity four, the Lady Vols finished third (7:53.85), falling to Kansas by a little over two seconds.
The grand final of the first varsity four was the first race of the day that would count towards automatic qualifier standings, the Big Orange crossed the finish line in fourth place, completing the 2000-meter course in 7 minutes and 57.81 seconds. This fourth place finishing gave Tennessee five points towards the automatic qualifier standings.
Tennessee's second varsity eight came up strong in the second race that would add points towards the standings, UT beat out Kansas State by two seconds to secure the second place slot to add 14 points to Tennessee's standings, bringing the Lady Vols to second place.
To finish the day, Tennessee finished fourth with a time 6 minutes and 57.53 seconds in the first varsity eight. Oklahoma (6:47.26) finished second behind Texas, pushing the Sooners to second place in the automatic qualifier standings. Tennessee finished third in the overall standings, two points behind Oklahoma.
